The Secret of My Garden2025 · Pastel

About the work

Hoffmann’s Two Worlds

In E. T. A. Hoffmann’s fiction, everyday reality exists alongside a world of fantasy: the familiar can suddenly reveal a wondrous, unsettling side. These two worlds, the real and the fantastic, can be present at once.

The Secret of My Garden invites a similar reading. Purple flowers and dense greenery belong to a recognisable garden, while the red and blue curves of the branches suggest the movements of unfamiliar creatures.

The boundary lies within the landscape itself: the longer we look into the foliage, the more we sense another life hidden behind familiar forms.

About the work

“Intersections” Exhibition

Rhododendron Forest was exhibited in “Intersections”, the 2024 exhibition of the National Union of Pastellists (NSP).

Flowering branches meet above the path, forming a canopy of pink and lilac. A small figure in the distance gives a sense of the forest’s scale and invites the eye to follow — through light, shadow and interwoven blossoms.

02 About the art

The art of
noticing stillness.

The softness of pastel, the shifting light, and the beauty of everyday subjects.

In Inna Novgorodova’s paintings, attention turns to colour and light: haze above the shore, moonlit reflections, shadows on March snow, and the rich colours of a still life. Pastel holds that delicate space between what we see and what we feel.
